Heads in the sand: why it’s time the global education community woke up to reality

“Education is on the verge of a revolution, in which learning rather than teaching becomes the norm, teachers become aides to learning and no longer imparters of facts, and the classroom-based model could well become obsolete. A whole series of imperatives are driving in this direction: the knowledge economy and its requirements for lifelong learning; the fact that most children now receive at least some secondary education and that this is the level of education from which most people now enter the labor force; technology changes that are shaking up publishing and the huge growth of open source learning; and the very rapid growth of the non-state sector .”
